With the warmer water that time of year(tuna and macks?) I was thinking of taking the boat up over the Easter school holidays....anybody else on here have a similar idea? Would be good to meet up for a fish and a beer!

Hey John - that's a GREAT idea - might put that to the wife and see what she says mate.

Where you thinking of staying?

I've kinda got a leg up on most everyone else, Dreamy...I stay at my father-in-law's house! It costs me a carton of Guiness each time but I figure I still come out in front! He has said, however, that any fishing mates of mine that come up are welcome to pitch a tent in his front yard so you have that option if trying to save a few dollars.

If you intend to book at the caravan park/chalets/etc, I'd suggest getting on to it soon because the whole town gets booked out pretty quickly for that time of year. Personally I prefer to do these types of trips when it's NOT school holidays but we've got a kid just starting high school this year and didn't think it wise to keep him out.

OK, it's official...going up on the Easter Monday with the kids, anticipate staying up there at least through the following weekend. Anyone else thinking of heading up there, give us a PM and we'll try to get together...planning on doing the usual bottom bouncing thing, as well as trying out the inside snapper lumps again, but really hoping for some mack/tuna results trolling the back of the reef!

Dreamy, you may recall from another thread that we didn't go so well...the bottom fishing was ordinary at best, with the highlights being some just sized dhufish and some solid snapper (60cm). The main purpose of the trip was to get some spaniards, and we managed to hook four, losing one due to my buggering up the gaff shot. Biggest one was around 10 kgs and of course the one that got away was a bit larger than that!

Inshore was slow but steady...20 crays from two pots over eight days, some good skippy and squid, and a few nice tailor up to 46 cm, which is what my youngest boy Marshall is holding in the attached photo.

Hiya Luke,

You do not need a boat if you dont have one, there are two town jetties to fish off, also beach fishing and of the rock walls at the Marina. If you have a Boat then its worth bringing it up, there is good fishing to be had from a Boat at Jurien 8)

well i explored Jurien and Cervantes a bit ... did some fishin off the jetty furthest from the cafe sunday morning
and at the marina rocks caught a heap of small stuff and a ridiculously huge toad fish.
was using a 7ft flexy ugly stick and light tackle was fun
pretty much pulled some thing in every time i dropped the line in with squid or cockles even scored a double header 8)
but no luck with lures or plastics and the squid were lookin at my jigs but they wouldn't take them
should have got some photos but left camera back in the room, i have no idea what kinda fish they were
can't find a photo of them either ... must be pretty common for the area tho
and also stopped in at the pinnacles on the way home for a gander

Definately recommend Jurien for a weekend away Food is pretty good at the Cafe

Ok, all, will be heading up again this year...probably going on the Easter Monday and staying for a good 10-12 days or so. Got some new (more expensive!) trolling lures and some info on different areas to fish so look out, spaniards and tuna! And the bottom fishing can't be any worse than it was last year, although this time around I may have my jigging setup ready and will probably not use bait at all. Softies inside the reef, poppers/minnows at the island, jigs/octos out wide, and trolled divers in between!
