hi all,

im looking to buy a boat ~6m to use for offshore fishing, surfing, wakeboarding, and trips to rotto on a calm day. only problem is there's nowhere to store it at home.

being new to this game, i was wondering if anyone knew what storage options there are for boats, and how much they cost (approximately). i live in nedlands, so would prefer something north of the river, and near the water would obviously be ideal.

thanks for your time,
mike.

G'day Mike and welcome to the FWA forum mate. I don't live in Perth any more, but there is (was) a place up on Wanneroo Road (roughly around Whitfords way). At the risk of suggesting the obvious, have you looked in the telephone directory? Other than that, drop Rod (the administrator for this site) a PM. Rod is in the boat business, so could perhaps help. Besides, he's an nice, honest straight up guy.

there is storage down near the ramp at woody point not sure of cost or avalability , there may also be some other out there on the forum who have room to spare to store ur boat for the cost of being invited out with u on a regualr basis ( not sure if this is fessable ) there are trust issues involved there but couldnt be that hard to get some sort of contract arranged im sure. It has got to be easier then paying regualr storage fees. I have known this to work in south east qld so cant see why it wouldnt work here.

Skintba that one is called Cockburn power boat storage. To be honest there has been a few places pop up just south of Freo but being a little further north i'm not sure of them all.

As for boat storage its hard and the best place is close to home if you can. Or if you can leave it at your house for shorts terms than somewhere on the way to and from work is also good. It needs to be easy to access or its going to be a pain and you will be resticted in use. Best spot is Yacht club hard stands and obvously up there is Places like freo but do your homework as it is very hard to get something. Often storage is a bigger deal that picking a boat

Feel free to call if you do want any pointers though would love to help if i can.

Rod

I used to have a 23' Boston Whaler and used the Boat Park in Fremantle.

#1 I'll give you a hint what is fundamental wrong with boat storage: you know when you have your boat in the back garden on a trailer. You are always checking things and cleaning things and fixing bits and pieces. Well, you can't do that easily when its in storage. My opinion: boats in storage are simply just not looked after correctly or sufficiently.

#2 Cost: It costs about $300-$500 PER MONTH depending on your boat size. That's a lot of after tax money by any measure.

#3 boat park personnel: some are good and some are a pain in the butt. They bang your boat about in the racks and - are you sure they flushed the motors long enough last time? They are also little power brokers and can make you stand about for ages if they have had a *naughty word* night previous.

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that a 560c barcrusher or Surtees on a trailer in the back yard or front driveway is the way to go - but that was before the fishing licence charges were introduced!
