A very pricey abalone fishing trip to the South West
Southern Region Fisheries and Marine Officers (FMOs) are warning people, who travel south to fish for abalone, not to put the fishery at risk by ignoring WA’s bag or possession limits.
Compliance Manager for the Southern Region Richard Petty said the case of five Perth men, who went abalone fishing together at Augusta in November last year, led to them being ordered to collectively pay more than $22,000 in fines and penalties.
The Southern zone for recreational abalone fishing extends from the Busselton Jetty to the South Australian border and the season runs daily between 1 October and 15 May the following year.
Detailed information on abalone fishing in Western Australia, including season dates and rules to follow in all zones, is available at www.fish.wa.gov.au.
